Scott, Perhaps you didn't notice, This is a BLACK AND WHITE GROUP!
Way to much JUNK on your site, Some decent color photos, but we are assaulted
with Animation! Sorry, but I hated it, and saw very little of interest to a
black and white group such as this. I suggest you separate your religion from
your photography.
"Christian photos"? give everybody a break for Gods sake! I consider this
site SPAM!

Steve,

Thanks. I have been wondering what to do with this guy. It is not commercial
but he definitely has an agenda from his e-mail address on! I am relieved he
doesn't have much B&W on his site! This should be interesting. (Or not!)

Guys you are pissing against the wrong tree again. His website has some
nice pictures and he is not a spammer, since nothing is for sale. His
cover gator is award winning IMO.

RE: [Digital BW] Attention Friends

Well Tiger ;)

This is a B&W group...
He could talk to us here instead of ask us to go elsewhere...
More than one post repeating the same information, then rephrasing it as if
he'd been asked loads of times about his site is 'devious' (he wasn't asked
ON this list that I ever saw).

I'm sure the poster would not have meant to cause offence, but it appeared
to me that he posted without consideration to the subject of this group, and
without general participation with us. Just my 2p.

Be nice to each other ;)

Best regards,
nij

Unlike some subscribers, the sub-text re religion in Scott's posts
doesn't rub me the wrong way, but what seems like self-promotion
unaccompanied by any interest in the list's concerns makes me think
his posts should be screened if not simply shortstopped.

Without sounding harsh to the link poster, I agree with Sam, Nij,
Dickbo, and others who complained about his form of "spam," and I am
withdrawing my support for him.

Just dissing this guy sounded wrong to me at first, but he really does
not have any real B&W work on his site (except for a few restorations).
More importantly, he does not seem to be into "B&W Prints" and does not
participate in discussion on this list.

Reviewing general habits on many lists, I have come to the conclusion
that only active participants on a list deserve the right to post their
links, and only when their work is on topic.

Last week we had a few incidents with spammers and I just could not come
up with a general rule that would be fair to all until now. I recommend
list owners to review this idea. I will certainly implement it on my
lists.

My link is part of my signature and I don't post too often but I would be
seriously pissed off if someone told me I couldn't include it because I
didn't 'participate' enough. I do lots of digital B&W work but my site
actually has more color images. I don't have a gallery dedicated to B&W
because it does not really fit my organizational structure. So, under your
'rule', I might fall into a grey area... Typical of how my life goes most

Good Morning,

I think this policy sounds very fair.

While I personally have no problem with his posting the web site the first
time, I do feel posting it again this soon may be overdoing it since it does
seem to be off topic as far as digital B&W prints are concerned.

Sincerely,

John in OKC

RE: [Digital BW] Attention Friends - link to 2000P list

2002-03-15 by TigerShark

Lawrence, I was not talking about your signature line. Just by posting
comments, like you just did, you participate and that signature is part
of it.

I was referring to the loose canons that come out of the blue and post
links like: "Look at my site and give me feedback .." Yet, you never
heard of them before and you never see or hear a thing afterward. Those
posters do not deserve our time. Exceptions could be made.

Also the amount of participation is irrelevant, but the quality counts
:-)

For all your information, I own the 2000P list and welcome anyone
interested, or who has a 2000P.

spam and Off Topic posts - [Attention Friends]

2002-03-15 by antonisphoto

TigerShark,

thanks for the suggestion. I totally agree with your final assessment of this
particular post (the "Attention Friends" ) and I am glad that it seems to be the
consensus rather than something I decreed from "above".

I think there is plenty of common sense in the membership here to understand
when off topic is OK and when it's not. This list has been self-regulating since
we launched it last summer. The inevitable spams have been few and quickly
removed. And by the way, if you see one, please let me or Martin know off list,
since I am not able to read everything every day.

Lawrence,

Personally I'm pleased that you post your web link, your work is
outstanding. You add valuable insight to me, as a serious amateur,
with respect to your comments and your photography. I joined this
list to explore options and gain insight; to learn more from people
who are experts in the craft of BW photography and inkjet
printmaking. (I use piezo s/w and inks now, beautiful prints, lots of
clogs!) Even though you may not post often, you'd be surprised at who
is paying attention. I definately consider you to be "on
topic". "Attention Friends" just seems to want some attention. I've
seen him on other lists with the same message.
