Clog issue on 1400

Clog issue on 1400

2015-10-07 by Sylvain M.

Hi all,

After a quite long time without using my 1400 (equiped with Eboni), I
had to make a strong service on it: change carts, flush heads. All
nozzles came back on track except the K head. After many (and many)
tries, I still get absolutely nothing (or some small lines from time to
time) from the K head.

I run with 6.3 carts from MIS and "old" Eboni.

Any clue? Help!

Thanks in advance...

Try letting the head sit in Windex (the type with ammonia) for a few hours. That is, move the head to one side by calling for a cleaning cycle. Pull the plug. Flood the parking pad with Windex, and manually move the head back over the parking pad into its usual parking position. Don't plug in the machine for a few hours. Then after it has sat for that length of time, plug it in and let it continue the cleaning cycle. See if that helps.

If you are not getting any ebony ink, I would suggest that you should purge the cartridge as well using a blunt syringe to suck ink out of the port on the bottom. Sometimes, if you run a cartridge dry, you have to do this to get the cartridge working again.

Thank you Paul.

I tried what you said. Unfortunately it did not change anything. I tried
to print an image in BO mode. In the beginning I got a very light grey
print (like 5 or 10% of black) and then progressively fully white paper.

I'm afraid that there is no ink transfer between the cart and the
nozzles. Strange indeed, but sad. Should I already think about buying a
1500 to replace my "old" 1400?

Re: [Digital BW] Clog issue on 1400

2015-10-09 by Paul Roark

A last ditch effort is a cleaning solution in an empty K cart to see if it can dissolve garbage in the head itself. I've had this work with a mild -- quite dilute -- mix of clear base and Windex. The third party companies may have better/safer (for the head) solutions. I can't speak for what they are using now. (The fact that I used what I did tells you my opinion of the commercial solution for which I knew the formula.)

These machines do not last forever. When you consider how many tiny droplets are needed per page, I'm in awe that they work as well and as long as they do. And cost? Compare the years of printing one gets from a 1400 family printer to the cost of taking the family to a nice restaurant a couple of times.

I'm afraid that nothing happens. It seems that the nozzles run correctly
but the ink does not travel to them.

Well, I'm fed up with waisting ink, I'll go for a new printer. As you
said, this is not a question of cost. I would go for a 1500w if I can
still find one, in order to use my CISS and profiles. Maybe I'll have to
linearize them but this not so hard.

Thank you for your support!

Re: Clog issue on 1400

2015-10-10 by ascherjim@...

I am really, really keeping my fingers crossed. My 1400 has been running (with very few hitches) steadily now for well over five years (with Eboni ink dilutions). I've just purchased a 1430 as back-up, and still can't get it to print as well as the 1400. If and when my 1400 goes, I may finally have to give up photography! (Perish the thought.)

What do you mean by this? your 1500 does not give same results as 1400?
the head should be the same....

Re: Clog issue on 1400

2015-10-11 by ascherjim@...

I'm assuming that the 1500 you refer to is actually the same as the 1430, and if so then I perhaps chose the wrong word in saying that the 1430 doesn't "print" as well as the 1400. To be more precise, the 1430 doesn't "function" as well as the 1400 -- I have a major problem with micro-banding with the 1430, which I don't have with the 1400

Re: [Digital BW] Clog issue on 1400

Hi,

In order to solve my problem I bought a 1500w. Afeter a few colors tests
(very nice, indeed), I installed my Eb1400 kit and... I have exactly the
same problem as in the 1400: the K ink does not work :((

Might the cart be defective?

Please help... :(

Re: [Digital BW] Clog issue on 1400

2015-11-06 by Paul Roark

It sounds like it's time to consider getting a new K cart.

With some of the carts and chipset versions you can put any cart in any position. You can also swap chips. So, you might be able to see if the cart still releases no ink in a different slot. (I assume the air inlet is open.)

Good luck.
