Foveon digital chip

Foveon digital chip

2002-03-18 by daschkenas

I posted something about this a few days ago, but didn't see it
come up.
The developer of the Foveon chip is lecturing at Carnegie mellon
Univ. tomorrow at 4;30.
A professor, here at CMU who is a good friend of the developer
gave me a call to let me know about the lecture. I had
photographed the CMU prof., this past year for an assignment,
and we started talking about digital photography, and he
mentioned his friend < Carson Mead, to me the guy who started
Foveon, who just partnered with Sigma to use their X# chip in the
new cameras. I told this prof, that its too bad Foveon couldn't
partner up with one of the bigger professional camera
companies like Nikon or Cannon, he said that Carson
approached these companies, but they were too conservative,
and showed no interest!!!!
Well according to an interview with Carson Mead in todays PGH
Post Gazette newspaper, it sure seems like this guy is a genius
who more than know what he's talking aboout
To paraphrase a quote from Carson Mead talking about the
conventtionl way manufacturers are making chips, quote "they
are attempting to do this like they are brain dead". He has a
better and simpilier idea which looks like his methods will
revolutionize digital photography.
