Some new great photos I have posted on my site

Re: [Digital BW] Some new great photos I have posted on my site

Well, Steph, one of the 8 galleries actually had some monochrome images, so
that's a good start. [g] Actually, it was hard to tell if they were sepia,
or just a foggy, smoggy Paris. [gg]

Which photos in particular would you like comments on? What issues relating
to B&W digital printing do you think they raise?

What I think is that this is just promo, almost entirely of their
color images, and not for the first time unless I saw them previously
only on another list. Which is too bad, because buried among the
color, there is a (badly-coded I believe) page of sepia to which they
might have referred us and about which they might have said something
relevant to this list. But, again, my impression is that they're just
ripping off a little promo, not trying to participate.

Sam,

I agree. There are some nice monochrome images in there but this is the
second time that the identical message has been posted with no commentary.
Alek has not made any other posts to the lists besides these two.

I also note that the site has a strong sales orientation "buy 3 get 2 photos
free". Lacking any other input from Alek, I am inclined to think SPAM or am
I being paranoid.

Alek what's the story here? Let us hear from you or we are likely to
conclude your only interest in the list is a shotgun advertising campaign.

Martin, let's get real here. The same post was made at the same time to
several other lists I am on; again, no follow-up, no other contribution to
the list. I'm sure somebody is selling a "make money at home" program that
tell you how to do this. I think there should be a very low tolerance for
these kinds of posts.

PS before somebody jumps down my throat, I want to say that I welcome URLs
from active participants on the list, regardless of whether they are selling
from their website or not.

Take off spammers - was Re:Some new great photos I have posted on my site

2002-03-21 by antonisphoto

People,

I think I've had enough with these kinds of posts from this spammer. We've
given him the courtesy of several more-than-reasonable replies. He is
nowhere to be seen. He is not posting in good faith (asking for our feedback).

Would it be OK with everyone if I just erase his post, and ban him from the list?
I consider him and others like him simply unwelcome here and propose that
we simply do likewise with similar messages in the future.

Absolutely! It's a judgement call, obviously, but I also think it's pretty
clear when an obvious violation occurs. In fact, I don't think you need to
ask for permission. Or if you want to, why not do it with a poll, instead
of cluttering the list. Actually, a poll might be fun! Hang him! Yes! No!

Bill,

Thanks for that tip of the posts on other lists. That is a clincher and if
Antonis hasn't beaten me to it I will remove the offender. Please keep us
apprised of similar posters.

If he was participating on the list. Asking and answering questions and
included his website address as part of his signature, as many people to, I
would not have any problems with the site. Someday I hope to have a website
and will no doubt offer prints for sale too.

This may seem like a subtle difference to some but I think it is about the
spirit of the list. The rules do say you can post ads of goods or services
relating to digital B&W printing but that you must limit them and you must
actively participate on the list.

Martin,

May i introduce an idea which everyone can benefit to?
Why not have a section on Black&White where users can
post a link to their website with a description of its
contents?

This way members can show off their photos or gain
critiques, or what they decide their purpose is.
