I just bought a book on framing that claims that plexi works better
for photographs than glass because glass, even non-UV, has more of a
yellow tint to it. Plexi apparently gives a truer rendition of "white"
highlights. It only seems to matter in highlight areas. (Matting and
Framing Made Easy, by Janean Thompson 1996, see photo page 101 and
text before that).

My own experience was a little ugly. In a show in Boulder Colorado in
the eightties, I hand delivered a work, an 11 x 14 silver gelatin in
an 16 x 20 frame with glass for a show. Someone broke the glass and it
put a big ripping scratch across the print. I had to replace the print
and re-frame. The gallery payed for the re-frame I think, but not the
ruined print.<shrug>

Guys,

I was told by a gallery tech at an art museum that they only use quality
plex for everything. I don't know if they re-glaze their older work or not.
They have controlled humidity and filtration. I prefer glass in my house
where art doesn't get moved a lot. I have a painting with the coated glass
(it came that way) and it works very well. If you have an important piece
that can't be lit properly where you want to hang it the money is well spent.
My pet peeve is non-glare semi-frosted) glass. Reflections are better than
killing a picture with that junk.
