There were a couple of responses along this line. Thanks to those
who responded. Indeed, choosing "Better" instead of "Best" speeds
things up. I tried this out and the prints looked identical.
However, my test was a 36 frame contact sheet where each frame was
scanned in at only 1350 dpi. This produces some stair stepping
patterns in fine lines. So I'll be testing this out later on a real
print.
Incidentally, by using the "Better" mode the Piezo software appears
to print in bi-directional mode. My understanding is that the Piezo
software only uses the Epson driver to get the paper size and
orientation. Even so, I have "Fast printing" turned off. "Better"
prints in bi-directional mode, "Best" in uni-direction.
I guess one question regarding the Piezo driver is whether it really
uses the 2880 mode. After all, doesn't the driver print at 2160 dpi?

720 dpi, "Better" to 1440 dpi and "Best" to 2880 dpi in the Epson
driver. Try printing at "Better" and at "Best". Compare the two and
if they look the same, as they do to me, stick with the "Better"
setting which will print much more quickly.
