Dick,

I have an RZ67 II - possibly for sale, but you can borrow it for a weekend
if you'd like.

Failing that, I have one of the roll-film holders from said-camera with a
hand-crafted pinhole cam on the front of it ;) Gives a lovely soft blurry
look for thos eportraits - no cokin soft-focus filter required.

Nij,

That sounds like you are having too many Piezography meetings in London
Pubs with funny names!

Dick,

Will the portraits be of adults or children and on the landscapes will you
be doing much hiking?
This has to do with the speed of operation and weight questions.

While I love the Hasselblad, it gets real expensive real fast.

I have seen the ads on the Mamiya 7 and it does look like a nice camera. I
have owned several Mamiya medium formats in addition to the RB and have been
happy with them.
Since there are those on this group who have them and like them, that might
be a very good choice. Since I have not been interested in other cameras
other than what I normally use, I'm probably not up to speed like the
others.

I'm assuming the Mamiya 7 is a 6x7 format, the Blad is a 6x6 and if you are
going to a "standard" size you should be able to use more of the negative,
which is your goal of going to a larger format.

Since I am new here, I am not familiar with what you have been using. Just
as a question, I'm assuming you are using 35mm now, have you tried a fine
grained film and developer?

Best,

John in Okc

Hey - I made a camera out of a Jacob's Cream Cracker on a Mamiya Polaroid
Back. It produced orange prints with multiple images from each of the holes
in the cracker. It was ironic that the cost of the back could have paid for
several thousand replacment 'lenses' ;)

Still there aren't many camera lenses you can have with cheese & pickle for
a light snack.

... and yes, i am being serious.

Smear a bit of mustard on the cracker for that soft sepia look.

I always beleived that Devil was a Woman, but now I am begining to change my
mind.

I assume you are aware that you personally are largely responsible for my
present situation i.e. an unfulfilled ambition reagrding B&W printing.

EOS 3 +Sigma 17-35 - Canon 28-135 - Just trying Kodak Tech Pan.

The problem is that although the old KTP looks very good it is quite obvious
that a negative 4X the area is going to look a whole lot better.

While I knock off my snaps in the usual way, my ambition is to produce the
worlds greatest A3+ B&W - well one will do - before I die.

A quite reasonable ambition I feel as i will indeed be doing much hiking as
long distance walking is a my hobby.

In the UK there are about 200+ long distance paths i.e. anything over
100miles - and the best country is the wildest forsooth.

Dick,

If you want a look-see at the camera, you'd better move fast as Julian is
offering me a swap... maybe ;)

Now then, now then. I used to sell drum scanners so kindly refrain from that
disgraceful attempt to bring about a fear laden close.

I will look, and possibly touch.....but I cannot possibly buy until I have
raised the necessary, by exploiting that well known "sweat of my brow"
technique.

Ok, Ok, send me the spec and include the asking price. I use the term
'asking' with some purpose because I am one hell of a negotiator.

Re: [Digital BW] My wife/ now what cameras do you like

2002-04-26 by John

Morning Dick....er actually I guess it is afternoon already in your neck of
the woods,

I have followed this thread and feel I should state my background in
photography. While I have done commercial photography throughout my career,
portrait photography has now become my
main source of income. This is why the electric Hasselblad works best for me
in photographing people and the Super Wide C for wide angle commercial work.

After seeing what others have recommended, as I stated earlier, I will
certainly defer to those who have been there/done that. I have taken
thousands of slides using Nikons' while on vacation in various locations
through out the US and Europe. I could probably count on one hand the number
of images that even come close to the quality that others on this list have
produced.
The photographers who are serious about scenic images are up against a very
tough opponent in those location elements. My hat is off to them.
I love Paul's images and think his suggestion about a tri-pod is a must,
although while using 35mm on the vacations, I never used one. Course that is
why it is called
a vacation and not work. <G>

I have learned a lot from reading the many who post here and I wish you the
best, please let us know what you decide and how you like it while using it
in the "real world."

Regards,

John in Okc (who loved my visit to England, what a great country to produce
beautiful images)
