Small Gamut work flows: neutral to cold-tone blacks

Small Gamut work flows: neutral to cold-tone blacks

2002-05-29 by Rick Schiller

OK, I've given up the the Lyson Quad-Blacks. They're fine as long as you
want a nice magenta color in the mid-tones. And a big thank you to Greg at
InkJetGoodies for having real integrity and giving me a Small Gamut cart, an
excellent place to order from!

I'm curious what type of adjustments and/or work flows others are using (I
have an Epson 860) for this ink set to give neutral to cold-tone
blue/blacks?

Thanks to all.

Rick

I too have just switched over to SG inks, finding that the necessary north
facing window on a clear day was too infrequent for viewing Quads as B/W.

I've been using Lyson Satin paper on an 1160, so there are Lyson profiles
for it and the Glossy, along with one for their fine art paper.

There is a Lyson training video available which covers all their products on
PS5 and 6 (it even covers PCs and M$ Windoze :-)) It covers workflows,
profiling and soft proofing. This was free from one of their distributors
with my first order. The video is UK standard PAL, which may be a problem
for some... In any case the script of the video is available on the Lyson
site <http://www.lyson.com/Technical%20Support/script.pdf>

I would also query the use of sRGB. The inks are reduced gamut, but they may
still run outside the range of sRGB. Not having plots of the relevant spaces
I cannot say for sure.

bye for now
