Piezography Driver Deal

Piezography Driver Deal

2002-07-04 by JimD

Now that inkjet mall is offering the Piezo driver stand alone for
$150 I'm seriously pondering it.
:: http://www.inkjetmall.com/store/piezography-original.html ::

My inclination would be to use it with the MIS FS inks on my 1160.
I've been impressed with those inks using the Randall workflow.

It is my understanding that I would have a workflow that is
closer to WYSIWYG with the Piezo driver. Is this correct?

I'd be interested if folks think the Piezo driver with MIS FS is
a good choice.

Is the Piezo driver worth $150?

TIA for your thoughts,
JimD

Jim, the answer is a triple YES.

JimD:

I'm not sure that PiezoBW will in fact yield prints closer to WYSIWYG
than the RGB partitioned workflow.

Seems it is a matter of how you setup your monitor. It is my
understanding that PiezoBW has you adjust your monitor (with dot
gain) to match the output -- this seems to imply that the print is
*accurate*. My calibrated monitor (PhotoCal and Spyder) seems to
match the prints I make with no extra monitor tweaking. I use gamma
2.2 and 6500K whitepoint for editing and printing.

Are your prints not close to WYSIWYG now? I suppose you could apply
a transfer curve to your saved image so that the output would match
your screen if you are not satisfied--although this may not really be
that much different in overall effect than tweaking the monitor
dotgain.

Good Luck.

JimD:

The PiezoBW driver is excellent because it has so many paper
profiles -- this alone may be worth the cost.

I did note yet another post on the Yahoo Piezography3000 forum today
about micro-banding with the 1160. This has been a problem in the
past (many threads and 100s of posts over the last couple of years).
You might want to check it out first. It appears that this is at
least partially a driver problem, not just a paper feed/dirty
printhead problem with the 1160.

I bought my driver used from someone for $100. But so far although my
prints look great with the Randall workflow/Epson driver the ones
using the Peizo driver are all banded. I'm hoping to search the
archives over on the Peizo list for some help but so far am not too
pleased with the Peizo driver.

Best regards,

Is it possible you don't have the latest version?
