digital B & W

2002-07-11 by bonita9529

I have done some B & W conversion of gray scale of color photos. I
use Photoshop 7 or Paint shop Pro to tune them for contrast. I perfer
to send upload them to ofoto.com and have them print. I have been
happy with the quality. I use a Fujifilm 6900Z and the quality is
outstanding. I am always looking for tips on how to imporve my
photos.I also want to learn how to color tint portions of my B & W
Photos. Does anyone do this sort of thing?

Bonita,

it may be worth your while to also check shutterfly.com. I have seen very good
prints (color) that a friend got and I can imagine they will do well in bw too
(within the limitations of using color materials for monochrome).

Also, they are very clear about the materials and process they use: they
expose Fuji Chrystal Archive in a Fuji Frontier machine. Chrystal Archive is
pretty much the current standard for archival stability in color.

As for colorizing, since you are working in RGB already, it's a simple matter of
creating colorizing layers (Hue/Sat with "colorize" checked) and make a mask
that paints the effect on only the parts you need.

I would pay attention to your color management settings, too. I didn't see any
info on profiles etc in ofoto, but shutterfly uses sRGB. Be careful that you
match what they need especially for bw prints.

Have fun!

Antonis

Does anyone have a link to a site that gives the low-down on Fuji CA?

I mean...is there an article or something somewhere that promotes its
special qualities?

Perhaps a longevity statement or guarantee?

Sincerely Curious,

Steadman

Try www.handcolor.com, it is an excellent resource.
