Lawrence, you follow the 9000 list as well as I understand it. In monochrome
the 9600 prints with only the black ink. Maybe there's an 8 pass facility to
get a better B&W result that way a la 10000. Printing B&W on the 9600 will
use Black, Grey and Lc,Lm,Y for the lightest parts. Will the last not affect
a strange exposure difference on silverprints ? To me it seems that there
must be a difference in (actinic) light if one compares the composite greys
with the single ink greys.

So far I heard only rumours that RIP manufacturers have a Black + Grey
monochrome printing mode for the x600 Epsons. It is a pity that Epson didn't
add an extra grey on the printer, with 3 greys and the droplet sizes of
those printers it would have been easy to get B&W equal to the quad/hexatone
of older models.

I do indeed.

I've been looking for any mention of this in the docs but have yet to find
anything. I guess Epson has to leave a few differentiating features in the
10000 that costs 2x as much.

It may and I don't have an answer yet. I just received my pictorico sheets
to begin testing. I can offer that a friend of mine is using her C80 (not
the same I know but still using the color inks to produce her negs) and is
getting great results. She is a long time platinum printer who's opinion I
trust.

I will let you know how the tests go.

Larry,

You will not be disappointed.

I have been making digital negatives on my Epson 10k and the results
are outstanding. I have been refining the curves and should be
in "printing" mode shortly. I have been making small negs for
testing, but with Pictorico now selling the OHP in 24" rolls, the
possibilities are endless.

With the tight tight dot pattern of the 9600 (like the 10000) I think
you will be amazed at what can be done. BTW, I started with
Burkholder 2000P curve and have been refining it from there using
the "Color Fill" method as well as the 6 color method.

Let me know how you progress.

Mike

Mike,

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to begin in earnest in the next few days.
I'm really excited about this approach. I really view it as the best of
both worlds if I can make produce the results I hope for.
