1280 Max Paper Thickness?

1280 Max Paper Thickness?

2002-08-07 by J Greer

Now that my 1160 has been felled by the monster clog, I'm considering
getting an Epson 1280 to produce b/w prints with either the PiezoTone or
MIS ink sets. Does anyone have experience running thick paper through a
1280? I've used Cone's Orwell (Hahnemuhle German Etching) in the past and
liked it, but it is rather thick. I would also like to know if the heavy
weight of Hahnemuhle Photo Rag will go through the printer.

Any opinions?

I have 2 1280's one with Piezotone WN 7 the other with Selenium. I use
primarily Photo rag 308gm/m2 but have used Orwell and Wells River
without feeding problems. The key is good alignment adjustment when
using thick papers!

Jeff, I've used the Hahnemuhle 308 in my 1280 without a problem and have
even printed without problems on the Epson Smooth Fine Art paper (cut from
their sheets, not a roll) which I believe is 425gsm.

All the answers I've gotten tell me I'll have no problem. Excellent!
Thanks, everyone.

I use the Hannemuhle German Etching 310 (sold as Royal Plush by
MediaStreet.com) in my 1270 and my 1280. Interestingly, on the 1280 I have
to help the paper begin feeding by grasping it at the edges and pushing it
into the feeder. On the 1270, it just feeds automatically. This is true of
both the 8.5x11 and the 13x19 sizes. Once it feeds, I have never had a problem.
