Digital BW, The Print

Confusing is right! Given that the Sundance software is simply the same as
the Piezo software, I would be inclined to buy from Inkjetmall since they
have an active tech support department. If Sundance is offering a "new &
improved" version they really need to beat their drums and let us know.

I have also heard various rumors connecting ConeTech and Colorbyte. Only
time will tell, although the ConeTech/Sundance connection was kept pretty
quite, so ConeTech may not reveal the source of Piezo 2.

Are things really getting all that more crowded or is it more like
Hahnemuhle papers where the same thing is sold under a multitude of names?

I did not post this on the Piezo list since it is owned by ConeTech. Their
policy has been to ask people not to discuss competing products on their
list and I don't want to violate their wishes.

Thanks for the feedback on your experience with the PiezoBWPro and the 1160.
Doesn't sound like I would want to rush out an spend all that money if there
is not a significant quality improvement.

Things in the world of digital B&W printing are getting more

From the description, this software sounds the same as Piezo plugin
and Piezo Pro.  The current Piezo Pro software is about to be
replaced by a new version.  On top of that, ImagePrint, who I believe
orginally developed "Piezo2" (not pursued) for Jon Cone, have their
own advanced B&W solution as part of their RIP, which of course has
one advantage, in that it drives colour printers too.

We will shortly therefore have a choice of three competing B&W Pro
level RIPs:  The B&WPRO from Sundance (presumably a new incarnation
of the current Cone RIP), the new Piezo Pro RIP from Jon Cone, and
the ImagePrint 5 colour/B&W RIP.

Market is getting a bit crowded all of a sudden :-)

To answer your question, I have printed to a 1160 using Piezo B&W
Pro, and the result looked pretty identical to using the plugin.

Actually you can't buy the old rip from Cone anymore.  They've been
"backordered" indefinately - I tried to buy the rip for my 7000 for
two months from them.  I have customers to print for, and while I
wanted to try imageprint with the piezotones, I couldn't wait, and I
still don't know if their recipies are ready.  I had that rip for a
month and was forced to move on.  That is a great rip, but without
recipies, it did me no good with my indelibles either.  The BW Pro
from digitalartsupplies is Cone's old rip from R9.  Exactly the same.
 I got my copy from digitalartsupplies two weeks ago, and now I am
finally printing for my customers.
The new cone rip is a variation of a different rip alltogether.  I
don't think I am at liberty to share what RIP it is, so I won't. 

And, I LOVE the BW PRO.It is no fuss, put the disk in and run it. 
Simple for an idiot like me.  However, layout features like imageprint
would be pretty darn cool.  I've sampled 4 different rips lately, I
feel like I have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly.
