Any way to remove banding on Epson Stylus 740

Any way to remove banding on Epson Stylus 740

2002-08-29 by heliar333

I have an Epson Color Stylus 740, which does a nice job, although it
is definitely an older, slower model.

I have tried to remove the subtle banding that only apparent in large
areas of similar light tones - by using the Epson driver function
that lets you clean the nozzles. When one try didn't work, I tried it
a few times in successsion. The result was ink on the rollers.

I also tried changing the setting that controls how tightly the paper
is run through the rollers. That does not have a noticeable effect.

I am using Epson Glossy Photo paper.

For a printer of this type, are there any other options ? Are newer
printers less susceptable to banding ?

Any insights would be most welcome.

I use a 740 with MIS quad inks. No banding probs. I print at 1440
with high speed off and microweave on. You still may have a clogged
nozzle. Do you get a clean nozzle check? If so it's probably the
speed or microweave that's creating the problem.

I have not always had the problem - only lately. I also use
microweave on and high speed off. The nozzle test shows nothing.

Dumb question, but do these printers ever wear out ? And when they
do, do they start banding ?

Thanks

You might try http://welcome.to/epson-inkjet and look for the "Direct
Inkjet Cleaning" instructions.

That page is an excellent resource, but I can't find that text string
anywhere on that page. However, I did find the section that gives
advice on how to remove banding. It runs you through the standard
methods provided by the Epson drivers, such as cleaning, checking the
head alignment, etc.

I have performed all of these tasks, and I still get banding.

Is it possible my printer is "worn out" ? Are there any other ways to
correct this problem ?

Thanks
