This is definitely off list topic but what the heck... I need a new back up for my F4. The F100 has been suggested as a good way to go but I can get a used F4 in excellent + condition for about the same price. Does anyone use the F100; what do you think of it? Thanks, Roger

I've never used an F4 so cannot compare it to an F100, but I can say that I love the F100. Its multiple focusing spots make it much more useful than the N90s it replaced. Its primary function for me is capturing my daughter and her friends in mid-air on (and occasionally off) horseback at hunter-jumper horse shows, and it excels in this role. For me, it is just the right tool for that purpose, as well as the usual family functions. It's very quick with my stable of f/2.8 AF lenses, and exposure is just about always smack on. Add an SB-28 flash and you have a very capable image making tool. Cheers, Kip At 9/7/2002 03:46 PM +0000, Roger wrote, in part:

However, while having a back-up identical body is nice in 22 years I've only needed to use my back-up 3-4 times. The idea of a back-up to me is that it's a light-weight camera that while not 100% of your main camera will still allow you to shoot and complete a job with little problems. But in reality, if you take good care of your primary camera in regards to upkeep, cleaning, and the occasional but regular CLA, you'll hardly ever really need it. Carrying a extra F4 or F100 seems a little much to me. To me back-up includes the idea that it's there with you at the bottom of the camera bag but hardly noticeable. I'd recommend a lightweight FM2 or FE2 or even a real light FM10 (don't laugh, supposedly Galen Rowell used to carry one on occasion for back-up). And with the FM2 you'll have the added benefit that all shutter speeds work without batteries as well. The FE/FM2 or FM10 are a small fraction of the weight of an F4 or F100. Just a thought.... I had an F4 for a few years. Outstanding camera in all respects. Jerry rlsopher wrote:
