Can't say how it does with black and white (but then, the question
didn't ask about that), but I happened yesterday to see the same
image printed on a 1280 and a 2200, on Epson Watercolor paper.
The image, a macro shot of some flowers, was overall slightly
slightly flatter on the 2200 than on the 1280 and the colors
seemed richer. Both looked good, but I preferred the 2200, while
the photographer preferred the 1280 (but most of his shots are
pretty contrasty, in my opinion). He was also very pleased with
the built-in cutter.

Certainly put me one step closer to buying one.

He also said he'd heard there is now or will soon be a black
and white inkset for the 2200, though he didn't cite a source.

More anon,
David

ok. so it doesn't seem like there's anyone in this group who's
using a
2200. but have you heard anything positive or negative other
than the
luminous landscape review? please share... thanks! rc

hi there,

if you have the patience to slog thru the interface, www.dpreview.com is the best place to find tons of user reports.

i rec'd a 2200 a couple of days ago. it's too soon to say much, beyond: I'm keeping it!! the print *quality* is very good (smooth, continous tone). i'm not
crazy about the colour so far, having been used to the look of Gen 4 from an ancient 1160. b&w printed a beautiful neutral (in daylight) but shifted ever
so slightly in a magenta direction under tungsten. do people profile for different viewing conditions? i'm looking into RIPs/profiling solutions and would
appreciate yeas or nays about what's out there for Mac equipment.

thanks,
margaret

As you in to B&W, the obvious answer is ImagePrint 5. It is not a
flawless product, but on a PC, it does crossover-free B&W, with the
addition of the tint picker (now they have got that working properly).

You really can have the best of both worlds - colour and B&W in one
box. But it is not cheap, and Colorbyte's upgrade pricing structure
is flawed, in my opinion.

I'm basing these comments on using a 7600 with ImagePrint.

Color prints are looking great for me. No problems at all. I've printed all sizes from 4x6 to 13x19 so far. Very few wasted sheets. Printing on Epson and Ilford papers only since I've heard horror stories with using other papers.

The current(current in the US anyway) issue of Amateur Photographer UK compares the Canon 9000 with the Epson 2200(2100 oustide North America). Epson wins.
