Doug,

Thanks for your recommendations. Thanks to Martin and Jim as well. So far
with my scanning and B&W digital printing, I've been happiest with the
results from my Ilford 100 Delta negatives. (I've also used TMax 100 and 400
but see more grain and have had more posterization problems for some reason).
I think I'm going to try a couple of rolls each of the Portra B&W, as well
as the Ilford SFX and Ilford FP4. I also would like to see the results from
the 400 Delta, since I like the 100 so much.

Thanks again!

Bob

Loris,

I've gotten a couple of rolls of Ilford XP2 which
I plan to use this coming Friday. When you've scanned this type of
negative, do you use the grayscale setting or RGB, and do you scan as a
negative or a positive? (I've been scanning all of my prior B&W negatives as
grayscale positives.)

Thanks!

Bob

Hi Bob,

I scan as "color negative" - using "Negafix" profiles provided in Silverfast
Ai 5.5 - and then convert to grayscale later. I do major tonality
adjustments in Silverfast and tweak in Photoshop later if necessary. I
usually rate the film at 320 ISO (to get better shadow detail). I strongly
recommend that you read the film's datasheet on Ilford site (URL:
http://www.ilford.com/html/us_english/pdf/XP2SGB_QX.pdf).

Hope this helps,
Loris.
