Clogged with Lysonic Inks.

Clogged with Lysonic Inks.

2002-09-28 by lakecd

I've acquired a used Epson 860 that had been printing with Lysonic
inks. The black is totally clogged, and the color partially. I have
unclogged Epson printers in the past using the old Windex trick, but
don't know if this method can be used to unclog Lyson inks. I'm
hesitant to try this without knowing if it will work or completely
screw up the printer, and I don't know what solvent is used in the
Lysonics. Would appreciate any guidance anyone can give me on getting
this printer working again. Thanks.

I haven't used Lyson inks but I understand that they are not
compatible with Epson, MIS, Piezo inks. People have ruined printers
mixing them. Therefore, this is one instance where buying cleaning
carts (MIS, inkjetmall, etc) is mandatory. Some cleaning carts have a
trace of ink in them so you can see if nozzles clear as you use them,
others do not have any ink in them and you can't tell.

After the cleaning carts, depending on the ink you really want to go
to, you can just switch over directly or optionally install Epson
original carts to further clear up the printer (Epson ink has a nice
solvent in it). Piezotone inks may require that you go directly from
cleaning carts to PT ink, I don't know...

Windex on the parking pad and the paper towel under the print heads
tips should all work fine with Lyson. Lyson makes their own cleaning
carts, but you can use any brand.

If some of the standard tricks don't work fairly quickly, I would
leave the cleaning carts in and in addition to daily windex, run a
couple of purge patterns each day till it clears.

I've only tried Lysonic for a brief time, so I'm not sure about it's
propensity to clog, but I've been using Lyson Small Gamut inks for
more than a year and they seem to be very clog free...I would imagine
the carts sat in the printer for some long time. What you are trying
to do is get liquid to the clog and dissolve it, so you may have to
be quite patient...but it should eventually clear.

Good luck,

Appreciate the replies. Rather than struggle with this tedious
problem, I'm going to donate the printer to the Photography Club of a
local high school along with these suggested fixes. It'll be good
experience with a problem that often afflicts digital darkrooms.
