You can, if you use dye inks on glossy papers. But that isn't fine art print quality to me. Jerry andrewmbiggs wrote:

Jerry, could you expand on that a bit? I'm more and more looking to dyes both in colour and BW- I wish I'd gotten to Lincoln inks BW dyes before they pulled them. I realise that semimatte RC-type paper isn't PR, but matted and behind glass?? Lyson small gamut inks on glossy papers absolutely equal the d max of a silver print. I tried it. It works. But I really do not want to sell or print glossy prints. They look tacky and cheap to me. Jerry I saw an example of the original neutral dye inks on watercolor paper many years ago that had a fabulous black. But that was the era of large dots showing up when printing on the 800 and 3000 printers, so never pursued that route. With the 1280 printer, I was wondering what they would be like? Jerry, Greetings from the Nations Capital...it's been a while since we spoke. Question: Since Small Gamut inks are dye-based, have you ever tried them on Somerset Velvet uncoated paper? I know, I know...the d-max is not as great as on coated papers, but that is not an issue for me...I like the soft painterly look I get on uncoated papers. I am considering SG and would agree that glossy prints are a bit tacky and not salable at all!!! I use a lot of Somerset Velvet uncoated with my dye based 7000...I love the look and the price of the paper, but am tiring of the color crossover issues on subtly toned prints. SG or even VM Sepia may be a good solution. Any suggestions on how to profile SG inks...I have a Spectrocam and Profiler Pro software...what do you think...any experience with SG on uncoated papers? Regards...Craig ------------------------------------------ http:www.craigsterling.com "Photography With a Sense of Place"

Hi Craig, MSG works great on epson archival paper. It's about the only paper I tried it on, as I just got the cartridges to try it. It also works fabulous on glossy papers. But I have no profiles for it on any paper. I haven't tried it on somerset uncooked, as that paper just can't get the blacks I want.' Jerry "Craig J. Sterling" wrote:
