little dots through loupe

little dots through loupe

2002-11-11 by frankg_photo

is there a method to reduce or preferably eliminate the little black
dots I see through a loupe ?

Is it a fuction of the epson driver ? I recently saw a 'dotless'
print from a lab writing their own software which I assume, but I'm
not sure, replaces the epson driver.

I use:
PhotoRag paper, MIS cfs system with sepia>neutral inkset, 1160,
Paul's Curves.

thanks
Frank

Frank:

If you like the look of your 1160's prints at normal viewing distance
using the MIS VM sepia>neutral inkset then put the loupe away and
enjoy your work.

If you really have to have dotless highlights, and are willing to
love the tones of the MIS FS (or FSN) inksets, then another choice
for the 1160 is the RBG Partitioned Workflow which uses all 4 shades
(as opposed to the VM's 3 gray shades + color toner).

Jeff,
Is this - the RGB partitioned workflow with 4 shades rather than the
3+toner, the reason/solution for the dots ?

Frank:

Yes IMO. BUT, at normal viewing distances this is really not a
problem.
