Tim, I think the CanoScan 4000 was released in April of 2001. I'll have to check at work for a actual release.

Nikon now has rebates on their 2700, 4000 and 8000 dpi scanners. That usually means something else is coming. I'm sure the Canon rebate will not be far off.

Anybody know if Canon is coming out with a newer model of this?
Anyone know when this one was first introduced?

  Thanks, Tim

Thanks Chris. That's good information to know. If Nikon is upgrading
I'm sure Canon will be soon too. I found an FS4000 at Fry's for $960
plus $100 for a replacement warranty. So I pay about $100 over cost
but can trade it in for something new anytime within the next two
years. Hopefully Canon will upgrade before then. It's probably better
than getting a grey market one for $725.

Usually photographic equipment is way cheaper in the US, compared to
Europe. For instance, digital still camera's are about TWICE as
expensive here. This Canon film scanner, however, can I buy here for 639
euro (and the euro and dollar are more or less equal at the moment),
excluding sales tax. I have to admit that this is in a shop only for
pro's, but you can easily register, without any proof etc. I bought with
them a Canon S900 the other week, also cheap. In their consumer shop,
right near their profi windows, it was 50% more!! They are not this
cheap on everything. Maybe Canon try to get a stronger foothold in the
pro market against Epson (printers) and Nikon (scanners). Anyway, this
scanner seems to have a good price.

BTW, another offer is attractive at another place: Polaroid Sprintscan
120 Filmscanner euro/$ 1795,- excl. VAT. But beyond my budget...
