I use the method advocated by Jon Cone to use with Piezography to match
monitor to print. Here is how I adapted it.
1. Create a 21 step (or other # step) grayscale file in photoshop.
2. Go to the image>mode>assign profile menu and choose not to assign a
profile to this image ("don't color manage this document").
3. Print out image using the applicable paper choice in the epson driver and
choose 1400 (2800)dpi, black ink only, automatic (color adjustment choice)
Source space should read "untagged gray" If it does not, you have not done
step 2 above.
Print space should read "same as source"
Print step image.
4. Compare print to monitor. Go to the edit>color settings>workingspace>gray
and click on the arrow to the right of the gray working space box and choose
"custom dot gain". Adjust the curve until the monitor matches the print.
Save this curve and this color settings setup under a name like "black ink
only, epson enhanced matte".
From now on, when ever you have a grayscale mode image without a profile
tagged to the file, you will see the image corrected for your black only
printout as long as you are still in the color setting you just created
above. Do this and your black ink only prints will be wysiwyg.
