Epson Fiery RIP: Useful for B&W?

I have a chance to buy an Epson 7500 with the Fiery RIP attached. Is it worth having? It it useful for B&W printing, how good is it for color, and do you need industrial strenght profiling a densitometer and a second lifetime to make full use of it? Any info would be appreciated, thanks. Steve Karafyllakis
