Has anyone experienced paper misfeed issues on an Epson 1280 when using papers such as Ilford Fine Art or Museo? My 1280 either will not pull the sheet into the printer at all or will send the sheet completely through without printing and report a paper misfeed in both instances. Standard or heavy paper setting seems not to make a difference. Thanks Bruce McKinney

Bruce: It may be that your rollers need cleaning, but what you really need is a backing board of some kind. The best are made of foamcore board cut to the short dimension of the paper you are printing on. (For example, I have a 13x11 board that I use for both 11x17 and 13x19 paper.) Just put the backing board in behind the paper, and I think you'll find that your feed problems are history. Is the mis-fed sheet the only sheet in the printer at the time, Bruce? Whether the paper is relatively thick or not, I think it feeds more reliably if there is what Epson calls (in English) a "Loading Support Sheet" on the bottom of the short stack on which you're going to print. They supply one with at least some of their paper. But I often just use a sheet or EAM/EEM or Museo or the thicker Eclipse on which I've printed a draft. Anything which raises the sheet(s) on which I want to print seems to work. You're right, I believe, in thinking the paper setting isn't implicated. But using the plus/heavy setting does seem to have caused some "overspray" problems for at least some people. I think I remember that being reported mostly about the 1280, but I have the mis-feeding problems on my 1160s as you have on your 1280. Sam Sam McCandless samcc@...

I'll cut a piece of foamcore at work this afternoon and see if that solves the problem. In the mean time, can anyone give me a brief description of the mechanics of the paper feeding process that would help me understand why lighter weight paper feeds without issue while the stiffer and heavier paper causes such problems? It's always good to know how in addition to why.
