Unless I missed a trick somewhere, using the v7.0 upgrade will disable v6.0.

I also followed the 4.0 - 5.0 - 6.0 - 7.0 upgrade path, the only usable options are v4.0 or v7.0 on my WinTel machines though.

  Subject: [Digital BW] Run PS6 & 7?

I was wondering if anyone is running BOTH, Photoshop 6 & 7 on their machine.

  I'm not sure I want/need 7 as I'm pretty comfortable with 6. Not real
knowledgable about the differences (asking for enlightenment here ;-). Now,
moving from 5 to 6 was very much worth it for me with the palates being able
to be tucked away, text especially...oh, and the layers effects - those were
all good reasons for me to move from 5 to 6.

Plus I'm curious if you can run 6 & 7 on the same machine, setting one in
particular as the default. Reason this occurs to me is when I went from 4
to 5 immediately with an upgrade they were both on the system, and
  accessible as individuals.

  Thanks,
  Cleavis

On a Mac you can, even after you upgrade. They'll coexist. I use 6 to print
with MIS-VM, 7 to retouch and edit.

Cleavis, photoshop 7 is well worth the upgrade price. I'd Never go back
to 6. There's hundreds of little improvements and 4 or 5 huge ones.

No it won't disable it. I had both on my hard drives for months and used
both. Of course I use a Macintosh....

As I said ... WinTel machine, it did disable 6.0, just as going to 6.0 made 5.0 innoperative on my system.

Re: [Digital BW] Run PS6 & 7?

2003-01-09 by Stuart Phillips

I had 6 and 7 running on the same Wintel machine. They run as separate applications7 is definitely worth the upgrade. Just to name two improvements:

1. The healing tool - a much extended and improved rubber stamp
2. File browser - a kind of windows explorer that allows you to view and rank images from within Photoshop.

BTW, I know a graphic artist who has 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 on her machine and occasionally uses the older versions topen older files as is.

Re: [Digital BW] Run PS6 & 7?

2003-01-10 by jim hayes <jimhayes@frii.com>

I've run both version 7 and 6 on Win2000 SP3 AND 7, 6 and ver 5.5 on
Win 98SE. You just can't run more than one version at the same time,
you have to close one.

I've chosen the "upgrade" path since version 2.5 and I've always been
able to have more than one version, be it on Win95 or Win 3.11

I just make sure that for each version I meet the requirements, such
as minimum processor, RAM, OS, etc., often I can't find these stated
anywhere but on the actual box.

I can't tell you whether ver 7 is worth it for you or not. For me, if
all they did was just add the healing brush it would have been more
than worth it. On some of my film negatives, I get 200-1200 seperate
dust specks to spot out on each frame. The healing brush goes at least
five times faster than the rubber stamp. Easier too, I can be more
sloppy.

And the enhancements to the brushes are mind-boggling. Almost moving
in the direction of "Painter" ver 5.5 the last one I upgraded to. Not
quite there yet, close. Tablet features like tilt are more integrated
and choosable in the brushes pallette. It's a lot to get used to, they
added a lot in the brushes pallette.

You mention many good advantages of ver 6 over 5.x, but perhaps the
biggest by far was better color management organization.
Jim H.

Smart man...I do the same thing...7 has great editing tools, but the
I haven't figured how to get it to match the adobe rgb output of 6.
Identical files look more saturated and warmer in 6..

Trial Version of 7 if in doubt...Run PS6 & 7?

2003-01-10 by Cleavis <lyonscox@cableone.net>

I recently took a look at the InDesign trial download...like that
idea. Guess one could always download (overnight-it's big) the PS7
trial if they had doubts/curiousity about the upgrade.

Thanks all for responses...I'm reading 'em.

Sincerely,
Cleavis
