True, and that's what I think we are both here to learn and partake in..

That may not be so simple either... For many years, I was a pure
"supply-sider" - I was even an avowed fan of the "Chicago School" and
Judge Posner (I thought Lawrence Tribe was insane). I still believe
that in the VAST majority of cases the open economy does a MUCH better
job of allocating scant resources and producing value for all
participants. Similarly, I think privatization of many government
programs increases efficiency and gets us all more bang for the buck.
What I do see, is that there are some instances where a pure focus upon
profit creation actually causes a misdistribution of resources..

For me, government should generally err on the side of non-intrusion
into the affairs of private individuals and companies.. I definitely
don't favor reams of rule-making, etc.. However, I do believe if the
private sector "takes unfair advantage" of a consumer or a company
engages in clearly anti-competitive practices, that is a place for
government intervention.

I just think that in a smaller market, all these questions are simpler.
But when people start using Copyright, Patent, and other laws to
prevent the forward GENERAL movement of technology, as they were meant
to do (in being designed to provide an incentive for invention AND the
disclosure of process - to drive innovation in alternative or improved
processes to accomplish the same task), then I have a problem with
tying... What should be an incentive to market development in such cases
can become a bottleneck or straitjacket..

Thanks BOB and if my tone was demeaning in ANY way, please accept both
my public ONLIST apology and my affirmation that it was NOT so intended.

Keith: No offense taken at all. Apology not necessary. I may be new
here, but I've already read enough of your posts to know you are a
person of strong conviction and not afraid to speak your mind. I knew
what I was getting into when I first replied to you.
