Hello, I will be traveling in the UK in a couple of weeks and would like to find a photographic supplier for large format film and C-41 Processing. I would like to buy my film after I arrive and have it processed before I leave so I can avoid any airport accidents. Scott

Simon, Thanks for the subtle reminder. I will be in and near London. More specifically: Buchan Hill Pease Pottage Crawley West Sussex I did some research and found that there are several Calumet locatoins in the London area. I can get the film I need there. More importantly will be finding a service to process 4x5 sheet film. In the past I just brought my exposed film back with me and had it processed when I got home. With the increased security measures in place in the airports I don't want to chance having exposed film damaged going through scanners. Thanks for the reply. they also have the cheapest Hahnemuhle paper in Europe - both as their own rebadged PR300 and under its own name. Also good prices on Ilford Classic pearl if you want to try RC paper. If you're coming in from Wessex, then Silverprint is definitely the most convenient for you. However, you might also like to try contacting Melvyn Cambertie- Davies at Master Mono. Melvyn is a well respected traditional darkroom printer who is also working with new technologies. Contact him for a price list. His email is mel@..., tel +44 207 336 7962. The only downside is that his lab is based in East Lonodn at 38 Kingsland Road, E2. I can also recommend another fine art printer called Les Mclean, who is based up north. Unless you don't mind couriering the films to him, probably not an option. K2

Julian Have you tried 7dayshop.com? It's an outfit based in the Channel Islands. They sell 100 sheets A4 for £17.95, free shipping to the UK (and possibly to Spain). They get around import duties by keeping the value of each package they send to below £18. If it goes above that, they pay the duty for you! Customer service is great too. K2

I just realised that I gave you an old phone number for Mel. It should be +44 207 729 7766. If you don't mind an extra 15 minutes on the tube (subway) from Waterloo, then Mel is worth a go. K2

Simon,
Thanks for the subtle reminder.

Buchan Hill
Pease Pottage
Crawley
West Sussex

Thanks for the reply.

I've only just been catching up on the digests. Pease Pottage is just off the A23 south of Crawley, Sussex (not Wessex)and due south of Gatwick airport and London. Crawley is the nearest town to Gatwick. You can get to Silverprint http://www.silverprint.co.uk by rail from Crawley or Gatwick by taking a train that goes to Victoria and stops at Clapham Junction. You change there for Waterloo and walk - 5 minutes if you know the way. Silverprint's website has a map if I recall aright. I suggest you order film in advance so that you are not disappointed. Look out for their opening hours - closed Saturdays, which I complain about. The nearest professional C41 lab that I know of to Pease Pottage is to the east of it at Edenbridge,CPL www.cpl-graphics.com Tel: ++44 1732 860393, but I haven't used or been in contact with them in years. I called to check that the company still exists and spoke to Ian Cobley. He lives in Horsham, due west of Crawley and drives close to Pease Pottage every day. I said why I was enquiring and he might, just might, pick up your film and drop it back processed, although he now outsources this. If you are interested give him a call. He doesn't stock film at Edenbridge but does at other branches of the business and might be prepared to help you out on this also. Colin
