I am scanning at 2000... Ed from VueScan suggested I try to upgrade which is what I will do.  Hopefully it will work.

  I do not have a SprintScan 45 (i or u?) but some scanners seem to 
  have problems if used at any resolution other than their optical 
  resolution. What resolutions are you using for your 4x5's? I believe 
  the optical resolution of the 45i is 2000 dpi and the 45u 2500 dpi.
