Vinny,

Kami is a German company, and you can find all products on their website:

http://www.kami-produkte.de/english/ <http://www.kami-produkte.de/english/>

SMF is not there, so I assume it's an acronym for Scanner Mounting Fluid,
and that it actually refers to the same SXL 2001 I've used.
If you search for "Kami" on photo.net threads I seem to remember someone
posted the address of a couple USA resellers.
BTW, the only meaning I knew for SMF was something very different, from an
old Twisted Sisters song, which I won't spell here for fear of being banned
from the list ;-)

Alessandro, I am looking for the Kami fluid and have found a site
selling SX 2001 which is a spray or SMF 2001 which is a fluid but
cannot find SXL 2001 fluid. Is this SXL fluid only available in
Europe?

Well, the SMF is a different bottle from the SXL I used:

<http://www.kami-produkte.de/english/sxl.html>

You may ask directly Kami if it's the same product...

OTOH, Decca SXL 2001 was the first classical stereo LP from that
company, worth about $50 in mint condition, if there are any
audiophile on the list:-)

In the USA the Kami distributor is Aztek:

If you are in the USA, I would get your Kami supplies from this
company:

http://www.aztek.net/

otherwise you can order similar supplies from a company called Prazio:

KAMI mounting

2003-03-04 by mh

I thought I better mention one thing here:

If you use Kami mounting fluid, you have to use Kami tape, otherwise it
majorly gums up and you will have a big mess. (That is one reason why
Kami tape is so expensive)

For more info on mounting, you can check the archives at the ScanHi-End
list on yahoo groups.

I thought I read on the Kami web site that the SXL 2001 doesn¹t gum up, it
evaporates and you can use a wipe to clear residue if there is any. It
seemed to be the big selling point of this particular fluid. Are you saying
that your experience with the Kami SXL 2001 is that it gums up and need
careful cleaning?

Re: [Digital BW] KAMI mounting

I probably should have been more clear. It gums up IF you use another
brand of tape with it. It sounds like you guys were talking about using
it without tape at all which i guess is a possibility since it won't be
spinning around super fast like it does on a drum scanner.

BTW, if you still have some residue, you can get it off with PEC-12 on
a PEC pad. ((but only wipe in one direction and not for too long or it
will degrade the emulsion))

Yes, I confirm that I do not tape 6x7 negs. Have no idea how drum scanners
work, but with flatbeds a few drops and careful placing of film on glass do
the trick.
