Curves for MIS-VM, Epson 980, Legion Photo Matte

Curves for MIS-VM, Epson 980, Legion Photo Matte

2003-03-20 by slightlyoutoffocus

Hello group!

I have been printing with moderate success over the last year using
MIS-VM inks, an Epson 980, and either Legion Photo Matte paper or
Epson Archival Matte (now re-named I believe). I received helpful
suggestions from several of you in the past, particularly from Paul
Roark, and settled on using PS curves created by Paul for the 1160.
Those curves do not produce a very linear greyscale for the 980 and
saturate at the black end. I have tweaked these curves roughly (by
eye and by means of a flatbed scanner and VueScan in lieu of a
densitometer). The results are still less than ideal.

I was just wondering if anyone might have produced new curves that
work better for me. Any help would be greatly valued.

Cheers,
Kiefer Elliott

If you are willing to try tweaking the curves but need better readings
of the densities try contacting ABC photo (about 4th and Fir). I took
them two step wedges yesterday and they (Jim Stay) made the readings
while I waited. It took about 5 minutes. Very helpful people. There
may be a small service fee.
