Why not buying a Minolta Dimage Scan Dual III for US$ 300? 2820dpi 16bit,
see a review @ http://www.imaging-resource.com/SCAN/DSEIII/DSEIIIA.HTM
consider it as a Dimage Elite II without Digital ICE3 - it won't scan medium
format though...

Don't have a 3200 but 2450 and I can say that it is very good for up to 6x
enlargements (13x13" for 6x6 format) when one uses unsharp mask in a smart
manner.

I have a Epson 2450 and have used it on 6x7 negatives at 2400 dpi and
the results were quite nice for prints up to 11x14. It would probably be
fine for 16x20's. I suspect the best you could get out of a 35 mm would
be 8x10. Maybe you could go to 11x14 at 3200.

Or, how about a Scan Dual II for $199 from B&H? Also 2820 dpi. That's
what I've been using and it is not a constraint to print quality. One
of these scanners with VueScan ($40)will quickly put you to where your
quality limits are determined by your knowledge of Photoshop and your
skill as a photographer, not the scanner or printer.

I haven't been able to find one second hand in my country, but there is a Nikon Coolscan II going second-hand for about the same amount as an Epson 3200. Does anyone have an opinion on the Nikon?

thanks,
Richard
