I have the same question as DL, however I'm printing with the Canon i950. I tend to get a green cast and have to adjust magenta slightly. Any tips greatly appreciated.

I'm using an Epson 1280 with Piezo Tone Museum Tone cartridges and Image export BW software and Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper and experience excellent results. I will be switching to Continuous Inking System once I run out of ink in the cartridges(probably very soon). Best of luck!

Subject: [Digital BW] Black and White Printing on an Epson 1280
Greetings
I would like to know if anyone is having satisfactory results
printing QUALITY B+W images, using the Epson 1280.
Are you using custom profiles, or Adobe Gamma?
Anything else that you can tell me regarding Paper Type, Settings
used , etc., would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
DL

I am having good results with the MIS VM-S inkset (neutral to somewhat warm,
my taste) and their CIS, though you can get individual cartridges. Arches
Infinity paper (best, esp if not under glass) or Epson EEM, using the Paul
Roark curves for this inkset. I gave up on color inks to do b&w some time
back, a waste of time IMHO. The Paul Roark NCA vm-nw curve, my favorite,
produces a warm-tone print with the six-ink set. The NCA vm-w curve
produces a neutral b&w print. You can even go to a sepia if you like that.
Excellent service - whenever something goes wrong I get a replacement part
by UPS in a couple of days (if you call --they're not into the email thing
100%). I understand the MIS Ultra-tone set has a longer display life and
goes to a cool tone, but I have not yet tried that. This is with PS7. It's
all on the MIS site, missupply.com. Right now I don't have a need for
prints larger than 13x19m, so it's a good economical solution...if you can
live with matte paper. Supposedly Oriental is introducing a paper that
replicates its famed air-dried fibre glossy paper (of which I've used many
M's of sheets in the darkroom), but I'll believe that when I see it. Good
luck to you.
Regards,

Hi, Do you have a dedicated printer just for B&W? Is it easy to switch from the MIS Quadtone cartridges to color ink cartridges? Or do I need to use some sort of cleaning system whenever I switch? The reason I ask is because buying another 1280 printer used exclusively for B&W is not in my budget right now. I would like to print both color and B&W from the same printer without screwing things up. Hi, I am using the ultratones in the 1280. I just bought a CIS from MIS. Switching to other inks is not an option with a CIS. However, if you use cartridges you are supposed to be able to switch them in and out. MIS just advice you to go over a few cleaning cycles, which the printer does in a few seconds using an epson utility. You will waste so much ink, MIS and Epson, doing the switch you will spend more than the cost of a new 1280 very quickly! The most cost effect solution over say a one year period is to buy a 1280, CIS and bulk inks. Martin Wesley http://www.borderless-photos.de/guests.html
