re: Sad news re: Jerry Olson

OK folks, here it is... Please feel free to forward this post (in it's
entirety) to anyone or any list where you might feel it should be
appropriately sent.
I've spent most of the morning online and on the phone tracking this
down, and I sincerely wish I had much better news to bring back..
From Today's Grand Forks, North Dakota Herald...
<http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforksherald/news/obituaries/5873144.htm>
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Olson, and sadly, contrary to
the obituary, there will not be any services for Jerry.. Apparently
Jerry wasn't feeling well as of Saturday and entered the hospital for
testing and care on Monday,.. He was soon in the ICU unit suffering from
severe acute hepatic failure. He passed away from acute liver failure,
or complications thereof (not a situation of which he had been
heretofore aware he was even suffering from), yesterday..
Cards or expressions of sympathy may be sent to:

I am already in contact with some people in the Grand Forks arts
community to help establish a trust, etc. to ensure that his tremendous
collection of negatives and prints will be preserved. We are engaged in
initial discussions about the possible creation of a "memorial trust" to
do so, and I would encourage anyone willing to participate to do so.. We
are also looking into assuring that Jerry's website is mirrored, to
prevent any lapse of its online presence.. Some additional prints by
Jerry from the current (and long overdue) print exchange will be donated
to charitable auctions (as Jerry and I had agreed already - not
expecting his demise), however, 50% of the proceeds will go directly to
serve as some of the initial seed money for said trust.. Originally,
we had intended them to be used for local auctions, however, given
Jerry's prominence in our online community, we may decide to auction the
prints on E-bay, or elsewhere (I'm open to suggestions and assistance on
this), instead; thereby allowing those of us in the digital community to
most easily participate in some small way in providing said seed money..
Unless anyone has objections, I shall keep you all abreast of any
developments along those fronts..
It pains me greatly to post this about a man I considered a friend...
Jerry was, someone whose passion for life and art re-inspired me at
turns, and those said same qualities will likely always be a part of all
the art I create.. Jerry's near obsessive pursuit of the digital Holy
Grail, for those of us involved in B&W printing, of a dMax equaling that
of traditional imagery, while still maintaining a comprehensive tonal
range. both drove, and at times exasperated, the developers of products
for the digital B&W market.. Yet, like many of those most admired by
many in this online community of artists, it was his humor that made
even the toughest line from Jerry palatable, whether or not you accepted
his premise on a particular issue.
There are very few with the artistic vision, the technical skill, the
desire to always push the scientific envelope, and the ability to bring
it all together. Although, at times, many of us ran afoul of Jerry's
same zeal, we should remember how far fewer still there are people with
the aforesaid abilities and qualities who are willing and able to, at
the same time communicate that passion and their knowledge.. His humor,
passion, dedication, and eye for beauty in the daily world will be more
than sorely missed.
I would invite everyone to view his works online at:

I am proud to have been honored that Jerry chose to participate in some
print exchanges with me, and the copies of prints by Jerry which I
count myself truly l fortunate to possess will long be cherished.
I know that the lilting ethereal melodies evoked by his best B&W
landscapes will long echo through the arts and my own personal world..
