Epson 2000P as Dedicated B/W Printer

Epson 2000P as Dedicated B/W Printer

2003-05-31 by bfwoolner

Have been lurking for several weeks now. Based on my photo-mentor's
advice I have purchased the Epson 2200 for color work leaving my
2000P sitting useless on my desktop. I am asking for ANY and ALL
suggestions as to the value of, the how to, and the specific types
of conversion to all B&W for this printer. I am not a professional
but an enthusiast with much to learn. Thanks for any and all help.

I made some curves for the 2000p and the PC that allow it to use the MIS
variable-tone inksets. That machine with the MIS Ultra Tone inkset may be
an excellent way to go.

Is anyone using an Epson 2000P as a black only printer?

2003-07-12 by D. Hill

Hi all,

Is anyone using the 2000p as a black-only printer? I
have a recently deceased 860 at my side which did a
great job with black only printing.

For historical record, I have walked the green mile
(piezography w/ piezotones) as well as burning through
a CIS of Full Spectrum inks. Not being really content
with either quadtone set, I tried the b.o. printing -
and the simplest solution was indeed the best solution
for my work.

Now, as I am in need of replacing my printer, I would
prefer to have a larger size print, and am caught
between the 1280, 2000p, and the 2200. I really don't
have a need or want the 2200 (spendy) and the 1160's
are getting a bit long in the tooth. Is anyone using
the 2000p as a black only printer? I am very
interested in your thoughts. Additionally, I am not
dedicated to Epson if anyone is having success with
Canon or HP's wide format printers.

Thanks for your time,
Don

I am trying my 2000P as a black only printer. I have been very happy
with some of the results and very unhappy with others.
It seems to be very dependent on the paper as to how I like it.
I have done a side by side comparison with a 1280 and my 2000P using
the same digi file and I liked the 2000P better.
BTW I saw that epson is selling referbished 2000P for just under $300
I hope this helps

I sold my 2000P and got the 2200. As far as b/w printing goes, I
was often getting better prints with the 2000P and black ink only.
The 2000P prints a bit chunky and the Ansel Adams crowd would
snicker, but the blacks are great and more archival than almost
anything out there. The 2200 has required so much tinkering
with add on software that it is a bit frustrating. Occasionally it
delivers a truly wonderful b/w though. The 2000P and black ink
only is good for the Robert Frank school with its grainy look. The
2200 is good for those of us who like to bang our heads against
the wall.

Re: Is anyone using an Epson 2000P as a black only printer?

2003-09-11 by B. Alex Pettit Jr.

I was quite successful in using the 2000P as a 'Four' color printer
with the MIS FSe inkset and Gen4 K and the stock Epson color curve:

I modified a Tint curve under PictureWindows to use K from 100%-94%,
transition to C to 80%, then transition to allowing the Epson driver
create the 'grey' shades from 80% to 50% with C M Y and from 50% to 0%
with the LC LM Y inks. It works well.

I doubt I will be using my E2000P again, as I am most satisfied with
the results I am obtaining with my E3000 in the wider format, so it
may be for sale - if interested, contact me off the Group, please.

PicWin Tint curve: free.

Alex
