Print Help

2003-06-27 by Strum

Perhaps someone can help me with this. I have a Minolta DiMage 7, when I
take a photo it looks good on the camera display and in Photoshop. However
after I save it and attempt to print it, the photo is pixilated. I can
think of 3 reasons for this

1. Adobe is messing the image up when it saves

2. Windows print wizard is messing things up

3. My HP DeskJet 648c (even with Kodak Glossy Photo paper and a photo ink
cartridge can not do the job).

I really think item 3 is the problem, and am thinking of getting a Canon
I905 printer. Does anyone have any experience with these and can let me
know how photo like the images printed really are? Thanks.

Hi David,

I don't know anything about the DJ648c but from experience the D7 and
PS will do a fine job. We print to an Epson 1160 from the D7 and get
superb print quality. The printer/driver is unlikely to produce
pixelation, so how are you setting your image size? The D7 file is
2560 x 1920, so resized to fit A4 or letter paper _with 'Resample' set
to off - very important_ you will get about 240 ppi. That's an ideal
figure to send to an Epson, and I doubt if the HP is too different. If
all the driver settings are for maximum quality that should work well.

I doubt if the HP output will be as good as an Epson or the new
Canons, but it won't be too dreadful.

Cheers,

Colin

Comparing printers I find that both the Canon i905 and Epson Photo 925 are
options for me, does anyone have an opinion on which is better? The only
difference I see is in resolution. The i905 is 4800 horizontal and 1200
vertical. The 925 is 5760 horizontal and 760 vertical. How important is
vertical resolution?
