changing cartridges

2003-07-24 by Richard Vanek

Hello,

so today after my cartridges rest over night I am going to clean
parking pads from OEM epson inks and that put my MIS UT filled
cartridge in.

Thinking about it I found few questions:

- when I take epson cartridge what should I do to avoid it to dry? I
would maybe need ti in future?

- when I was filling cartridges yesterday I found that inks are quite
liquid. I am afraid when I take rivets out of cartridges before
putting it in printer all inks will leak or at least mixed before I
placed cartridge in the printer. How you do it?

Thank you very much for you recommendations!

Richard,

I put tape over the outlets. Do keep the Epson carts. They are useful if
there is a bad clog later.

I don't even use rivets any more. I just tape the outlets. They don't leak
much ink. At most a drip comes out.

So I will take rivets out and place tape all over all outlets and
than install it to printer? Is that right, instalation of cartridge
to printer will perforate them again to get ink out.

I hope this is correct. Sorry for so many questions.

No. I use tape instead to rivets. I take the tape off before installing
the carts.

Maybe a stupid question, but:
why bother removing the tape while installing cartridges? The spikes in
the head will go through
anyway. Are you concerned about the traces of glue on the tape?
I use CIS with UT right now - works great, but I would like to know my
options.
Thanks,
Jack

Yes, I'm just afraid of a little piece of tape getting into the intake. It
may be a small risk, but I just don't know. I think MIS has told me they've
at least occasionally just left the tape on, and it seems to work.

Don't know how critical the fit is but the tape would raise the cart
slightly and the adhesive might be softened by the solvents in the ink. Why
take a chance?

Re: [Digital BW] changing cartridges

2003-07-25 by Richard Vanek

Hello,

I like to thank all of you for help, esspecialy to Paul.

I succesfully cleaned parking pads today and installed my first MIS
UT filled cartridges. I would like to share with you my findings:

1. Cleaning of parking pads with paper tower, was easy. First was
just placing paper towel on pads to soak as much ink as it could.
Than by siringe with litle hose on syringe I put few drops of warm
water. Than soak with paper towel this. Than parking pad was turning
to white grey color as more and more black ink was soak to towel. At
the end towel didn't take almost any color.

2. Than I was afraid that when I take rivets out, ink will start
leaking. So I put tape all over top of the cartridge, to close all
wents to limit air comming in. I believe it helps. When I took off
rivets (that was pretty difficult to do, underpressure I guess), I
placed cartridge in printer and before closing down the cartridge
holder I took off the tape. I didn't get a drop out, at least I
didn't see any.

After 3 clean cycles, 4 purge pages and resting for 3 hours I am
constantly getting perfect nozzle check.

So now I am trying 1280 UT curves and Paul's workflow.

Thank you all of you very much for having this great way of sharing
information!

I wish you nice prints!
