Changing from EBIONI ink to PK in a CFS system

Changing from EBIONI ink to PK in a CFS system

2003-07-24 by ed021us

Hello All

I am using a 1280 with MIS UT CFS ink set. It works very nicely with
no clogs. I would like to print on some gloss paper.

Has anybody come up with a easy way to change out the Eboni cart for
a PC cart with out makeing a mess.
My thought was to seperate the EBoni CFS tube from the bundle and
insert a new tube from the PK ink bottle to the new PK ink cart.

That way I could switch between the two.

Anybody got any thoughts on this or see any problems with doing it
this way.

Thanks

There has been talk of using the CFS/CIS just for the color-position inks
and using carts for the black ink.

When I used a CIS on my 1160, I did what I think you are talking about,
although for other reasons. I separated the black line and had separate
black inks. It worked, but barely. With the 1160 -- a quad -- the tubing
ribbon with only 3 lines became unstable, flopping all over the place. I
was usually able to tape the black line onto the other 3 and get it so that
it would not catch on anything, but I always worried about that possibility.
It often took a number of different tape positions to finally get the setup
to the point where even in slow motion testing the tubes stayed where the
were supposed to be.

Because of my marginal luck with taping the black tube on the other 3, I
don't recommend using CFS/CISs this way on 1160s. I now just fill empty
carts each time.

With hextone printers, I think a 5-tube ribbon would be fine. Whether it'll
stay stable when you try to tape on the 6th/black like is an open question.
Give it a try and let us know. Be sure to test the setup manually by moving
the carriage back and forth to see where that tubing ribbon is going to flop
to.

Good luck.

I am using the new MIS plastic tube holders the one that is about 6
in long with a tube clip on the under site. It keeps the tubes
fairly streight. What I did was put some spray silicon on the tubes
and inside of the carrage, so that any tube rubbing would not cause
any damage.
The only minor problem I see is the carts are held in place by the
plastic wire strap, which holds both carts in place. The felt pads
should should work without the plastic strap.

Since I don't do much semi or gloss printing, I think I will stay
with the CFS Eboni and use a standalone PK cart for gloss.

The system is working so well I don't to mess with it. My prints have
never been so good.

Thanks again
