repair service in san francisco

2003-07-24 by Tom

Howdy All,

has anyone in san francisco found a good place to take a comatose
Epson printer for repair?

my 2000P did not like me taking a three week honeymoon break. all
lights are flashing. manual says if turning it off and on again don't
work, contact cavalry..!

I found references to ink waste pads and resetting tricks, but I can't
find a reset button combo that works for me.

Epson says their closest authorized service centers are outside the city.

warranty is long over... so I don't think I need an authorized service
person.

any thoughts?

thanks,
Tom De Carlo

Tom...

For $10 you can get a service manuel. Go to the MIS site, go to
the front [main] page look for "new", go down 11 items and you'll
see the download information. I have bought two service
manuels from this site and am pleased. Just checked and they
have a 2000 Epson Manuel. The manuels have the reset
procedure for the individual printers. I don't have a 2000 so I
can't help. If you have a paypal account, you get the down load
withing seconds. Might save you lots of money. It also has the
procedure to change ink pads. You could probably get by for a
couple of months on just a reset if thats the problem.

I've been saving a reference to one in Emeryville I have not yet used
myself. Glad to post/forward it.

Thanks Ron!

I was gonna visit MIS for more ink soon, but didn't think to check
them out first...

I did get the service manual from the site they list, and even though
I was sure I tried the combination they give, my printer woke right up!!!

the manual does say the ink waste pads should average about five years
of use at a particular rate or about 10000 prints... could all the
cleanings I do to use handfilled inks cause the limit to be reached
3.5 years early?

Thanks Sam,

I have that Emeryville address too... even called them to say I was on
my way... then I saw Ron's post about the link from MIS's site.

$8.95 is way better than an $80 minimum for something this simple!

There is also a procedure for finding out what the time left on
your machine is [the pad change], on my machines , you turn it
off and then hold down a couple of the buttons in front and it
gives you a print out. The procedure is in the manuel. Bob at
MIS said that he was going to start carring the pads as an item,
he's been asked for them before. Just setting it on an old towel
works also. Glad the info helped.
