Digital BW, The Print

I am printing some B&W photos, however it escapes me how to include typing 
(Photoshop 7.0) outside the image area.  Please outline the specific steps 
needed to type outside the image area.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Select Image, Canvas Size, Anchor Point (i.e. if you want the caption at the bottom anchor the canvas at the top so the extra space comes in at the bottom) the type in a dimension that gives you enough room for the caption, press OK.

John, many thanks for your response.  You would not believe how long I have 
struggled with the problem.
