Epson 7000 and Quadtone Rip Question

Epson 7000 and Quadtone Rip Question

2003-08-06 by Mark Stracke

Looking at the Ink Descriptor files in QTR I get the impression that
I could turn off particular heads in the 7000. Is this correct?

For instance, could I *only* use positions 1 2 3 and 6 for my four
greys? Would QTR know *not* to fire the heads in positions 4 and 5?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mark Stracke

PS. I'm really liking this software!

Yes.

Yes, if you put inks 4 and 5 in the "unused inks" list.

I don't own either a 7000 or the RIP software, but am considering a
larger printer for B/W. So, with this software RIP I could
theoretically use TWO sets of inks, say two blacks, two cooler tones
and two warmer tones. Then selectively turn off the cooler tones if I
want to make a warm tone print? This sounds very interesting.

Hi Mark-

Yes, the inks are all individually controlled. I am using VM inks, with
only one toner. If you had a truly neutral black/grey set, you could have
both cool and sepia toners at the same time.

You can also control at what densities the toner(s) kicks in, either across
the spectrum, or just in the lights or darks.

Kudos to Roy.
