QuadTone RIP Installation on MacG4 with OSX- HELP!!!!!!!

QuadTone RIP Installation on MacG4 with OSX- HELP!!!!!!!

2003-08-11 by David M. dorn

This week end I installed QuadTone RIP, Gimp-Print and Ghostscrip as
instructed on Roy Harrington's website. As of now I can not get the
Epson 2200 cool and warm profiles to show up in the appropriate dialog
box on the "Print" screen.

I have checked (as root) the path usr/share/cup/quadtone/2200 and the
two text files show up there. I named the printer "QUADTONE2200" per
the instructions amd the two curve files have the printer name
QUADTONE2200.

I can print both as a Gimp 2200 printer and as a QUADTONE2200 printer.
I just can't select the two curves in when trying to use QuadTone RIP.

I have installed and uninstalled printers several time. I am using the
last version of Epson's driver which included the upgrade for roll
page, borderless printing etc. Should I uninstall the "Epson 2200"
printer?

As Yul Brenner sang in the King and I , 'tis a puzzlement".

Thank for any help you can give.

David

David,

Did you install the profiles with Run-Quad-Profile and if yes do they
show up in the CurveDropBox folder with a .quad suffix? When you
re-named the printer in the profile descriptor files did you make sure
that there are no spaces or special characters (should look like this
if you re-named the printer: PRINTER=QUADTONE2200)? Does your
QUADTONE2200 printer appear in the Printers folder, inside the
CurveDesign folder? Did you copy the CurveDesign folder to your hard
drive and do the profile installation there? You do not have to
uninstall the Epson printers in Print Center.

Carl,

Thanks for yur help and prompt response.

The Epson 22200 curves are now installed and appear as they should in the print set
up screen. I printed one print this evening and all seems to be working.

The installation problem turned out to be something with the Install Quad profile
scrip running in terminal. This was my first time under the hood in OS X other than
using Emacs or Pico to edit a file. I noted that when I ran the Install script program
terminal opened but after I dropped the profile txt files and hit enter only the text
files themselves were in the Curve Drop Box. At no time was I asked for a password.
On my last try, I brought up terminal and first logged in, left terminal open and then
ran the install script....I dropped the cool/warm txt files and the profiles were
properly installed. Maybe this is a pecularity of OS X, but since I login on startup it
seems I should not have to login again in terminal. I did all this as administrator
under my user login not as root.

Maybe this wll help someone else.

One last question. In the first Print with Preview screen in PS, should I seclect Output
or Color Managment and if Color Management what are the recommended Source
Space and Print Space settngs for the grayscale image file and Epson Enhanced Matte
Paper?

Again many thanks for your help and a tip of my hat to you and Roy!

David,

In the Print with preview screen Source Space should be gray gamma 2.2
or whatever else you have selected as your gray workspace in Photoshop
and Print Space should be set to same as source. There is (or should
be) a read-me file with a description of the driver settings in the
2200 profiles folder.
