Epson Enhanced Matt / Heavy Weight Matt

Epson Enhanced Matt / Heavy Weight Matt

2003-09-04 by IF YOU DONT HAVE A CAM, DONT BOTHER

I may not be searching right, but can someone tell me the difference
between these two papers? I have printed on both and I can only
tell a very slight difference in print qualities--but cannot say one
is better than the other. In fact, I can barely tell any difference
at all. I am using Epson's stock drivers, matt black ink. They
both look pretty damn good to me. Is there any practical reason to
spend so much more on the Enhanced Matt? Or perhaps the images I am
printing are just not complex enough to bring out the true
differences?

THanks

In just the past few days these two papers and the differences
have been discussed extensively in this forum (in the "EAM
paper turns yellow!" thread).
EEM contains optical brighteners, and while it's initially
a little "whiter/brighter" than HWM, the brighteners (and paper)
eventually turn yellow. The HWM avoids the brightener issue and
as you've found, is otherwise extremely close to EEM in the way it
prints both color and B&W. HWM should be at least the equal of
EEM with regard to image fade. The HWM is a bit thinner than
EEM.

Like you, I can tell very little difference between them. Give me the
same print on both papers, side by side, and I can tell you which is
which after a few seconds. But given one print, I can't confidently
say it's on one paper or the other. That's using MIS FSN inks and MIS
VM inks.

I believe the general view on this group is that EEM is good and HWM
is not. But my real life experiences are otherwise. The late great
Jerry Olson and I had this discussion off list. I will always remember
being impressed when Jerry finally admitted that in side by side
comparisons, he could tell very little difference.
