QuadTone RIP - some *REALLY* dumb questions ...

QuadTone RIP - some *REALLY* dumb questions ...

2003-11-12 by johngeyles

I have decided to bite the bullet and switch over from OS9 to
OSX on my Mac G4. (I'm already really glad - the computer wakes
from "sleep" much faster, and will now actually go to sleep, which
it had been unable to do since I added an Orange Micro 5-USB port
PCI card awhile back; plus, it's a LOT less flaky, in
terms of freezing up and such).

Anyhow, this also means switching from OPM/IJC to Quadtone RIP.
I've installed gimp-print and ghostscript and QTR, I think. And I
did the "ADD" procedure under "Print Center". So what's next ?
When I run the "Print" command under Photoshop 6, I still just
get the Epson driver (I think). I cannot figure out how to get
to the QTR driver. Am I confused, and QTR is stand-alone ? Or
do I have to fire up gimp-print ? Or do I need an OSX-native
version of Photoshop (PS 6 is running under Classic) ?

Sorry to be a dumb-ass, John

John,

After you go through the Add Printer procedure, you need to get
some profiles and install them into the print driver. If you are using
a 2200 under ExampleInks there's a folder that has profile ink
descriptors. You double click on Run-Quad-Profile and drag
the descriptor file onto the window. There's also a ReadMe there
that will help out. Once you have installed some curves this way
when you use the print dialogs you will see QuadToneRIP options
and the curves that you have installed.

Hi John,

OPM/IJC works fine under OS X, only that it'll run under Classic
environment. QTR will run just as well. It's only a matter of which
suits your needs and taste the best!!!
