QuadTone RIP and densitometers used?

QuadTone RIP and densitometers used?

2003-11-12 by Dr. Robert Young

I am curious about what equipment people are using successfully (and easily)
with this RIP for generating ink profiles. Thoughts and suggestions
appreciated.

The calc-density script that Roy has provided with QTR makes it quite
easy to use MeasureTool files, created by strip reading printed 21-step
gray wedges with the Eye-One spectrophotometer. There is a complete
description of the procedure in the Eye-One folder that is part of the
QTR download. MeasureTool is a free utility that is part of the
ProfileMaker Pro demo download from GretagMacbeth (not necessary to
purchase).

It just occurred to me that the MeasureTool supports lots of different
spectrophotometer and densitometers. In addition to the Eye-One
it looks like a bunch of SpectroCam products, and X-Rite products.
So it's quite possible that any of these hardware products could be
driven by MeasureTool and output the same data files and have the
QTR scripts take advantage of them.

If anyone has these other densitometers it would be great to know
if this works.

All spectros I'm aware of generate ASCII output, using standard measures
like Lab, XYZ, etc., so absolute worst case you might have to massage the
format a bit. I have the cheapie CM2C, and it can output just about
anything, in just about any format (comma-separated, tab-separated, etc.),
either to a file or as simulated keyboard input into a program like Excel or
Notepad.
