is EPSON listening in?

is EPSON listening in?

2003-11-19 by alnchiem

.....isn't that the really interesting question, since almost all of
us here use their printers? Or is it blatantly obvious they're not?

Because if they are, with all the discussion centred on black and
grey inksets, wouldn't it make sense for them to come up with an
Ultrachrome black and grey inkset for the 2100/2200,7600 and 9600?
Sure, it would need a major re-write of the drivers, but since Paul
and others have generously provided adjustment curves for free,
couldn't they download that and incorporate it into their driver,
without re-inventing the wheel?

At the very least, wouldn't a 'black and light black only' print
setting be popular to complement the black only print setting? How
dfficult is that?

I totally agree with you. A new UC black & grey inkset and a new
driver wouldn't cost Epson a lot. If they do that, I believe they
will win a high percentage of the digital B&W printing market. They
don't even need to change the hardware at all, only the inkset and
driver. Epson did spend money on the Grey Balancer software for Epson
2100 in Europe. Why didn't they spend the money and effort on a new
inkset and driver? I guess the only answer is that they are not
listening in. They don't even know what the B&W digital world is
pursuing.
