re: Numbers of rolls of film used in a project for Nat. Geographic (was B&W)

Sorry Andre' but Robert is not mistaken. One thousand rolls of 36 exposure film is not an inordinate amount of film on a major project if you accept the fact that you'll get 1% as Keepers! This leaves 360 photos for the cutting table. A dozen superb images are chosen for the magazine! This was argued about in the Leica forum recently and the points made were useful but at the end of the day, we aren't interested in efficiency; we're interested in obtaining "the best photograph" whatever your criterion is for judging that. Burn film, it is cheap compared to missing the magic of getting that one in a million shot! Now that we have digital; we no longer have to pollute the earth with so much plastic from the film; cannisters and slide casings. Who would have thought that photography would become friendly to the environment after so many years of dumping our chemicals into the earth post souping the film and making the prints? I think digital is a responsible medium! So get that motor-drive whirring! Cheers, Owen Owen P. Evans J.33-3 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
