"Easy B&W"

"Easy B&W"

2003-12-01 by Paul Roark

It looks like MIS is going to market my "no workflow" inksets under the
name/category of "Easy B&W." I assume this will include the C82 inksets.
(Carbon warm and neutral - and anything in between by mixing the carts
installed.) It might include my "carbon 8" for the 1280.

The UT-2 inkset could also be in the "Easy B&W" category, because it can be
printed from a grayscale file with no curves, or other Photoshop or RIP
workflow. However, it is also a full sepia-to-cold variable-tone inkset.
It even has enough coolness in it to neutralize the warm shadows of
Pictorico and some other RC papers that could not be totally neutralized
with the UT-1 inkset.

Re: [Digital BW] "Easy B&W"

This is the first I'm hearing of the UT-2 inkset. My interest is piqued!

My 1280 should be arriving today, and I was planning to dedicate it to
B&W printing with the UT inkset and Paul Roark's workflow.

One of my main concerns with the UT inkset and the Roark workflow was
the inability to get a WYSIWYG preview of the image just prior to
printing.. with the Roark method, the last thing I would see on my
monitor prior to hitting the print button would be a very weird looking
(almost psychedelic) rendition of my file.

Will the UT-2 inks allow me to get an accurate preview on my monitor
prior to printing (assuming the monitor is accurately calibrated)? How
about if I choose a warmer or cooler setting?

Finally, where's the best place to get fully up to speed on the UT-2 inkset?

Thanks,

Mike

Paul, would you expect that the UT-2 inkset would eliminate the
bronzing that's evident with UT-1 and RC / glossy papers?

Thanks

When printing from grayscale, it will be close to the print. However, there
is no preview of the tones. When curves are used to get the sepia tones or
for other purposes, the monitor will continue to show false colors.

Right here. I'll have more information later this week.

No, I don't expect it to cure that problem. It may, however, help with some
of the RC problems.
