Paper for 8x12

Paper for 8x12

2003-12-01 by Conrad Weiser

Can anyone recommend inkjet papers for 8x12's? I guess the closest
standard size would be Legal, but the only choices I know of in that
size are Canon Bubble Jet, Canon Coated, and Epson Photo Quality Inkjet
Matte. Are there other choices? It would be nice to be able to print a
single 35mm full frame 8 inch print without having to crop or cut paper.

I buy 50 packs of 13" x 19" sheets and cut the paper down... resulting
in two pieces that are 13" x 9.5"... I center my 8 x 12 prints on that
paper and trim off the margins if needed. If your printer only handles
letter size paper (maximum width of 8 1/2", then trim your sheets down
to 13" x 8.5").. It's only a couple cuts and doesn't take that long to
cut a whole pack down to size.

If I buy Epson Heavyweight Matte from Office Depot, the paper ends up
costing less than fifty cents per 8x12 print.

If there were no Legal sized options, cutting down 13x19 was my next
idea. I was just hoping for a single sheet solution, but if that's the
best way to go about it I can handle that. I'll need a bigger paper
cutter. A4 size is close, but no banana.

Right now I have no printer capable of anything beyond Letter or Legal,
but I'm planning on getting a 1280 to load with UT next month.

Re: [Digital BW] Paper for 8x12

2003-12-02 by awahlster

RAD, I have been talking about doing just this with 13X19 paper on
the Photo.net forum for Digital printing I was trying to find out if
the Canon i960 or i950 printers would handle legal size paper 8.5X14
so to be able to print a full frame 8X12 just like you are. The idea
I had for cutting the paper involved making more then just the 8X12
size as I do a lot of printing to a 6X9 image size (they work real
nice matted into my letter sized portfolio book) I have figure out a
whole bunch of ways to cut down this paper. BUT I have been planning
on having a print shop do it all in one pas on their Guliotine type
cutter. I polt it out for them on the top sheet or give them the
diamensions and cut order and in a couple of minutes the make me 50
(or more) Identical sheets that will register perfectly in any
printer. That can be set for that paper size. Thsi would only cost a
few bucks and most shops would do it while you wait or help out.

The other way to accuratly cut paper this size would be a box knife
and a staright edge (beats a paper cutter all to heck for staying
straight.

Thanks for the idea, Mark. I didn't think of asking a print shop for
that kind of service.
