Paul, what are some of the driver settings for the new UT-2 inks. I'm particularly interested in the settings for Epson Premium Semi- Gloss with the PK Black.

One thing I've noticed with UT2 is that it is relatively unaffected by paper type. Different papers can print with different tones, but I'm not seeing the flat spots we used to see. I think it is the lack of a very light ink, and the very good and mild Epson driver cross-overs. Yesterday morning I had this speech where I wanted to have a sample of a 1280 split tone. At the last minute it occurred to me that I had Photo K in the 1280 and my only curves were for matte papers. So, I just used the EEM curves on the Semigloss. They worked fine as is. I'll find specific driver slider settings and make specific curves for the Semigloss eventually, but I was amazed at how well those that worked for EEM also worked for Premium Semigloss. As for the sliders, EEM prints slightly warm with no sliders, HWM, 1440 HS, Color Controls Auto or Vivid. For neutral, try Vivid, C +7, & M -5. For medium warm, try Vivid, Y +25, M +10, & C -15. I also have curves available, but I'm not sure they are posted anywhere yet. When using the curves, the settings include: "Photo paper" media type, Adobe RGB, No Color Adjustment, 1440 slow, and 16 bit for the strong, "sepia 2" curve. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

UT2 on Premium Semigloss does bronze, but the PremierArt spray takes care of most of it. With the aid of a hair drier, printing and spraying can be done rather quickly. Paul www.PaulRoark.com __________________________________

I've been trying the sprays and find that I'll need to make a spray both if this turns out to be a worthwhile method. BTW I use the McDonald Sureguard - bronzing gone after two coats - requires more to get the "air dry" look. Will someone please send me straight to a page or post with some info re archival properties of various sprays over various inks and papers? I am particularly interested in their effect on black dye inks. Thanks AZ Build a Lookaround! The Lookaround Book, 2nd ed. NOW SHIPPING http://www.panoramacamera.us

Alan, >>UT2 on Premium Semigloss does bronze, but the >>PremierArt spray takes care of most of it. >>With the aid of a hair drier, printing and spraying can be done >>rather quickly. > >>Paul >Gasp, choke...! Do you use a spray booth? No. I have a clothes line across my garage. I open the doors, use clothes pins to attach the top of the print to the line, use clothes pins to attach a 1/8 x 2" aluminum bar/strap to the bottom (from a hardware store and cut to size) to hold the print still. Then I spray and coat, go catch a breath, use the drier, catch a breath, spray another coat, etc. I can hang a number or prints on the line for batch spraying. Of course, my climate is not terribly cold even in winter, so this open air method is no problem. >BTW I use the McDonald Sureguard - bronzing gone after two coats - >requires more to get the "air dry" look. I think most of these sprays are about the same. The quality of the nozzle and whether it facilitates even spraying may be a factor. I suspect a solvent-based acrylic from Golden and the Preval sprayer could lower out costs substantially. The Wilhelm tests of PremierArt's spray is a big plus for that company. It's on the 9600 UltraChrome test page at http://www.wilhelm-research.com/. I'm not sure of where other comparable tests are. Each company alleges different things, but the specifics of their tests are seldom if ever given. Paul www.PaulRoark.com
