Reproduction vs. Orig Fine Art Print?
2003-12-26 by J Vee
Any fine art photographers successful in getting digital prints accepted for sale in galleries, high end art fairs, etc? Strange, I can make a "perfected" negative, could use for contact printing forty+ Silver prints in an afternoon, and these would be considered hand made original prints. The fact is that digital prints, no matter how excellent the image or the printing, are somehow considered mechanical "reproductions" with relatively little value. This fact, taken with the continuous print improvements discussed in this forum, make me feel that we are in the midst of a major and irreversible change in the way photographic prints are perceived by the buying public, a change which will probably not be beneficial to those of us who sell prints. Any thoughts?
